Da steht der reiche Kaufmann neben dem armen Handwerker, Lehrer neben früherem Schüler, kurz im Felde verschwindet jeder Standesunterschied. Jede Familie, die irgendwie etwas zur Unterhaltung der Soldaten beitragen kann, bringt freudig ihr Scherflein zur Bahn, wo es den braven Soldaten auf ihrer Reise mitgegeben wird. Schon täglich gehen viele Züge an die franz. Grenze. Mit den Klängen eines deutschen Liedes wie „Es braust ein Ruf wie Donnerhall“, oder „Deutschld., Dtld. Über alles“ fahren die Züge dem Ziele entgegen. Wenn zwei Soldaten, die sich noch nie gesehen haben, sich heute irgendwo treffen, so begrüßen sie sich wie alte Bekannte. Ja, ganz Deutschland ist einig, wie es sein muß. Alle haben nur einen Willen, einen Wunsch, ein Ziel, nämlich dem Vaterlande zu nutzen und seine Kraft ihm zur Verfügung zu stellen. Auch wir Schüler wollen beweisen, daß unsere Glieder auf der Schulbank nur ausgeruht haben und nicht eingeschlafen sind, wir wollen zeigen, daß auch wir Deutsche sind, und als Deutsche wollen wir fröhlich in den Kampf ziehen. Doch wir wollen nicht zu viele Worte vorher machen, erst kommt die Tat. Ja die Tat soll es beweisen, daß wir Deutsche sind, die Tat allein. Ob wir heimkehren liegt in Gottes Hand.
